Performan (パフォーマン) is a fixed screen action game developed by Toaplan and released by Data East in 1985 for arcades.

Gameplay[]

Performan is a top-down action game played with a 4-way lever with 2 buttons. Performan can dive underground (button 1) or send boomerangs (button 2). Also, if the player catches a wandering ghost, it becomes invincible for 5 seconds.

Mecha Stones placed on the ground can be detonated by hitting them with a boomerang, hitting them with no boomerang and pressing the button 2, or by digging under them and dropping them. If the player kills many enemies at once with the blast, it will get a high score. If Performan is caught in the blast, it will not be able to move for a while.

When the Mecha Stone is blown up, a gift box will appear, and when the last gift box is taken, a P item will appear near the center. If the player collects it, Performan will be in the colored ball time, and by collecting the 4 colored balls coming out of the enemy base the player gets an extra life. However, it is not color ball time during the invincible time. If the player hits a boomerang on the face of the remaining plane display that comes down from above, it will get 500 points.

Trivia[]

  • There has been no home port of the game to date. In May 2017, "TATSUJIN Co., Ltd." (headed by Masatoshi Yuge, the main staff member of this game) was established to acquire the intellectual property management of Toaplan works, but this work is excluded from their "titles available for handling" list, implying they don't currently own the game's rights.
